Music: Curriculum
The major in music at Randolph-Macon is in two parts: the Basic Musicianship core (18 credit hours) followed by a Specialization Track (21 to 24 credits). The major culminates in the senior year with an internship or independent project and the Senior Arts Seminar (FINA 481).
The minor in music requirement is the Basic Musicianship sequence.
After completing the Basic Musicianship sequence and upon the approval of the faculty, each music major selects a Specialization Track. The tracks enable the student to focus her/his musical studies toward more specific goals, while at the same time enhancing the personal musical skills acquired in the Basic Musicianship component.
As students select their Specialization Track, they can, in consultation with the faculty, choose an emphasis within that Track. For example, with the Music Industry Track, students are able to focus on music recording, music publishing, or music management. Within the Musicology Track, an emphasis can be on music journalism or graduate musicology study.
