The German program at R-MC combines a variety of courses and major options. In our
courses we stress communicative skills, develop critical thinking, and emphasize
that knowledge of German increase your chances of a fascinating career in the contemporary
global market. To this end we encourage the study of German-speaking cultures through
its language, literature, film, art, music, intellectual, and political history,
and sciences.
Our curriculum is further enriched by our semester and yearlong study abroad programs
in
Marburg where students encounter German culture firsthand. Finally, through
Foreign Language in Translation
(FLET) courses and a January term travel course to locations such as Vienna, Berlin,
and Istanbul, students engage with some of the most important representatives of
the cultures of Germany, Austria, and Switerland. These courses include perspectives
of renowned German film directors, Nobel Prize winning authors, scientists, and
philosophers as well as on topics such as on German-Jewish identity and the cultural
contributions of ethnic minorities in Europe.
Furthermore, the program offers and encourages a broad range of cultural opportunities
such as the study abroad
program in Marburg,
SURF projects, and
independent study, as well as extra-curricular activities such as
German movie nights, the weekly Kaffee & Kuchen Stunde (for more information
see our calendar of events),
and field trips organized by the
German Club.
