Maria Jose Bordera
Assistant Professor of Spanish Ph.D., University of Pennsylvania
Originally from Alicante (Spain), Dr. Bordera-Amerigo joined the faculty in the Department of Modern Languages in September, 2004. Dr. Bordera-Amerigo’s teaching interests focuses on Spanish Peninsular Literature and culture of the 20th Century. She has taught all levels of language classes and advanced courses such as the Special topics titled “A World of their Own: The Female Subject and the Politics of Nation[al] Identity in Francoist Spain,” which explores the historic and cultural factors that determined the female identity during the Franco Regime through the analysis of literary text and film. Her research interests span from Contemporary Spanish Literature and Film to Gender and Performance Studies as well as Women Studies. Her second research project is related to the social and cultural issues raised by the Hispanic immigration in the United States and Spain. She is currently working with Prof. Susan Parker from the Psychology Department on a new FYC course for the academic year 2006-2007 related to that subject matter.
