Course description: This course will immerse students in the Spanish speaking environment in Alicante, Spain. On campus, this conversation course is designed around different current topics and gives students the structures and vocabulary needed to participate in class discussions, which are reinforced by lessons and dialogues that introduce students to a varieties of dialects and degrees of speech formality. On location in Alicante, the course takes on even greater dimensions as students interact directly with Spanish students and faculty as well as with the families they will be staying with. This will provide them with the richness and cultural diversity that constitutes a unique experience.
Student responsibilities: Students are expected to attend all classes and excursions, speak Spanish and participate meaningfully in class discussions. To improve written skills, they will maintain a journal in Spanish. Finally, each student will give a well prepared report about an assigned topic. There will be written mid-term and final exams as well as announced or unannounced oral quizzes along with the final written report.
Prequisites: Spanish 212 or 215 or department permission.
