THE BENNETT MEMORIAL HISTORICAL AWARD  FOR STUDENT RESEARCH 
Established in 1899 by Bishop James Cannon, Jr., D.D., and Mrs. Larua Bennett Cannon, in memory of Mrs. Cannon father, the sixth president of Randolph-Macon College, the Bennett Award is given for the best historical essay.
