Development of a Water Quality Sampling Plan for the Stony Run Watershed, a Tributary to the Chickahominy River
EVST 105, Fall 2012
The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VA DEQ) listed 0.2 stream miles of the Stony Run subwatershed within the Chickahominy River watershed in Hanover County, Virginia as impaired for exceeding minimum standards for fecal coliform (E. coli) bacteria. However, the sampling sites used by the VA sites in violation of E. coli standards could not identify actual sources of bacteria. This goals of this project included: (1) determining the impacts of various land uses (i.e., development) on E. coli concentrations and (2) developing a sampling protocol that will more narrowly-define locations within the Stony Run watershed that exceed the Instantaneous Maximum Standard.
