WHAT: Professors Lowry and Showalter will offer Economics 383, Britain in the International Economy which will travel to Wroxton College in England during January Term 2012. As students are planning their coursework for January, they may want to include this class in their plans.
WHY: Most of the European Union has completed economic and monetary union, with many new additions since 1992 and more applicant nations awaiting inclusion. This is an opportune time to see the exciting economic and business changes that are taking place throughout Europe.
PREREQUISITES: The prerequisite for ECON 383 is permission of the instructors.
WHEN: We are scheduling the last three weeks in the January Term 2012 at Wroxton College. Tentatively, we will fly out on the 10th, arrive there on the 11th, stay at Wroxton through the night of the 25th, and fly out of London on the 26th.
WHAT ELSE: A number of trips away from Wroxton will be included. We plan to visit the town of Oxford and Oxford University. We also plan to visit Parliament which includes a tour, speakers, and visits to the galleries of the Houses of Lords and Commons. We expect to see a play at the Royal Shakespeare Theater in nearby Stratford-upon-Avon and spend the day in Stratford, the home of William Shakespeare. Additionally, we have scheduled trips to Stonehenge, Bath, and Warwick Castle. Industry tours are also scheduled. Bus service will be provided to London for the "middle weekend" of our stay in England.
HOW MUCH: The fee will include all travel, lodging, and meals while at Wroxton College. Lodging during the "middle" weekend in London is included. The student will be responsible for meals while away from Wroxton. We expect the costs to be between $3,300 and $3,400 depending on airfare, the number of students, and the dollar-pound exchange rate.
CLASS SIZE: The class size will be limited to the first 25 students who sign up for the course. It is important that you express your interest to Professor Lowry at your earliest convenience. You do not need to make a definite commitment yet, but if you plan to go you should register for the course. We will provide further information to all students who express an interest in the course.
