Joe Mattys
Professor of Arts and Director of Theatre
Professor Mattys joined the faculty in 1990. He received the BA
in Fine Arts/Drama from Colorado College in 1967, the MA in Theatre
from Illinois State University in 1969, and the MFA in Acting from
the University of Virginia in 1978.
Mr. Mattys regularly directs Drama Guild productions, and teaches
acting, directing, and history of the theatre. He is also an actor
with numerous credits in several states. His credits in Virginia
theatres include: Wayside Theatre, Heritage Repertory, TheatreVirginia,
Barksdale Theatre, and Theatre IV.
The author of a one-man show on Shakespeare, he has appeared in
True Colors and was a voice in Ken Burns' "The Civil War".
